Master Your Inner Dragon: The Guide to Becoming a Wise Rider
Master Your Inner Dragon: The Guide to Becoming a Wise Rider
How to Transform Your Fear into Power?
Today you will understand why your mind sometimes sabotages you and how to start turning it into your ally. In a world where anxiety and fear seem to be our constant companions, it is vital to discover how to navigate these turbulent waters and come out victorious.
“It is not your shadow nor your burden. It is your flying partner.”
A Day in the Life of a Rider
Imagine Ana, a young professional facing a crucial presentation at her job. The night before, her mind began a chaotic parade of doubts. “I’m not ready,” she repeated. “Everyone will think I’m incompetent.” As the clock ticked down, fear transformed into a storm within her: sweat on her forehead, palpitations. Everything indicated that her dragon had taken control.
However, Ana remembers her mentor’s teachings about dragons and riders. Instead of giving in, she decides to sit at her desk. She breathes deeply and begins to speak kindly to herself: “I choose to do my best.” She realizes that the dragon is not her enemy but a part of her trying to protect her. Thus, on the day of the presentation, instead of succumbing to panic, she stays on course, guiding her own journey.
Decoding the Internal Noise
What Ana experienced is common: the reptilian brain, representing those primitive instincts, can subtly sabotage us. When we are in survival mode, the internal voice becomes critical, and the monkey mind jumps into action: a thousand thoughts at once, drawing erroneous and inaccurate conclusions. But, why do we feel this way? This is not a personal flaw; it is the response of a brain seeking safety.
The ANTs (automatic negative thoughts) appear everywhere, filling us with doubt. But what is the key to breaking this cycle? Recognizing that the inner dragon only seeks to help us. What is vital is to understand that it is not about “mastering” that dragon, but dialoguing and working together.
The Reins of Your Dragon
The reins are powerful tools that allow you to direct your attention toward where you truly want to go. First, let’s explore the Verbal Rein: “I choose to do this” transforms your sense of obligation into one of empowerment. The Visual Rein involves defining your focus; ask yourself what image you want to hold in your mind each morning and how this can change your day. Finally, the Behavioral Rein: small actions can lead to big changes. A simple daily note of gratitude can redefine the way you see your life.
Building Internal Agreements
By recognizing your emotions and thoughts, you can begin to establish internal contracts that guide your decisions. Simple pacts like “Who I am is enough” or “I can go for more without losing myself” offer a new path. These contracts will help you shed self-demand and foster a space for personal growth.
Your Practice Space
Create a weyr: a space where you can face your dragon and practice your connection with yourself. It doesn’t have to be complicated; it can be a corner in your home where you feel safe to reflect, write, or simply breathe. Define your routines there, return to your reins and the contracts you have made with yourself.
An Exercise for the Soul
Now, I want you to reflect: make a list of those criticisms your dragon throws at you every time you fail. These are your ANTs. Then, transform each of those phrases into one you would use towards someone you love. Instead of “I am a failure,” try: “I am learning and that is enough.” This exercise will not only tune your mind but will help you build a warmer and more understanding relationship with yourself.
Visualize the Flight
Imagine Ana now, hours after her presentation. Sitting in her office, she reflects on how her dragon was an ally rather than an enemy. Self-compassion and understanding led her to be stronger and more confident. This is the rider's journey: learning to share the flight with the dragon, to guide them together toward what they truly want to become.
