Master Your Dragon: The Art of Guiding Your Inner Mind
A Deep Connection with Your Dragon
Today you will understand how your mind can be your ally and not your enemy. In a world that often seems overwhelming, where expectations and fear chase us, it is vital to learn to tame our inner dragon. This article dives into the narrative of dragons and their riders, and how we can learn to guide our minds towards a more meaningful and peaceful life.
The Words of a Wise Person
“It is not your shadow nor your burden. It is your flying companion.”
Recognizing Our Internal Struggle
Imagine the following scene: You wake up startled by the persistent sound of the alarm clock. The clock ticks on relentlessly while your thoughts swirl, nervousness and anxiety increasing in a cycle that seems never-ending. You look at yourself in the mirror and feel that knot in your stomach. An inner voice begins to blame you, asking why you are not good enough, why you haven't reached your goals yet. That inner voice, your dragon, screams out from exhaustion and desperation, struggling to stay afloat in the whirlwind of daily life.
At this moment, that voice takes over you, leading to overload, to a point where you simply want to give up. But what if I told you that this voice is not your enemy? What if it could actually become your best ally, a flying companion that needs to be heard and understood?
The Neuropsychology Behind the Dragon
Within us, the dragon represents our reptilian brain, that ancient part that gets activated in the face of fear and anxiety. The truth is our brain is designed for survival. In stressful situations, our most primitive instincts are triggered, putting our minds into survival mode. That critical voice we hear is the result of past experiences, traumas, and self-expectations.
Often, the dragon can seem like an enemy. But here lies the key: what we must do is not fight it, but engage in dialogue with it. Learning to listen to our dragon is essential. Acknowledge that those emotions, although discouraging, are simply responses to external situations.
The Reins: Tools for Interacting with Your Dragon
The reins represent different ways to direct our dragon's attention. The Verbal Rein is a powerful tool: changing “I have to” to “I choose” transforms our perspective and our emotional response to our daily routine. It is about using language that empowers, not limits.
Then there is the Visual Rein. The image we decide to focus on at the beginning of the day can make a difference. Ask yourself: what do you visualize when you think of your goals? That image should inspire you, not weigh you down.
A Practical Tool to Transform Your Inner Self
I propose to you a simple but powerful tool: the contract of recognition. This agreement with yourself implies accepting that “who I am, what I have, and what I do is enough.” It is a reminder to stop self-demanding and allow yourself to be human, with mistakes and successes. It is a first step toward self-compassion.
A Deep Exercise
Now I invite you to an introspection exercise. Take paper and pencil. Make a list of the phrases that your dragon repeats when you make a mistake. Ask yourself: would you say these phrases to someone you love? If not, change them. Replace them with compassionate and encouraging messages.
The Possibility of a New Flight
Now imagine what your day would be like if you could guide your dragon instead of being dominated by it. Transformation is possible if you decide that day to start listening to that voice from empathy, from understanding. A dragon and a rider in sync can soar high, towards unexpected horizons.
