Discover Your Dragon: The Journey to Inner Harmony
Today you will understand why your mind sometimes sabotages you, and how to begin turning it into your ally.
"Your dragon is not broken. It just needs a rider who knows where it wants to go."
A Coffee and a Dragon
Imagine you are sitting in your favorite coffee shop, observing the atmosphere. People rush by, the smell of freshly brewed coffee fills the air, and suddenly, you feel a knot in your stomach. You wonder if you will ever become the person you want to be. That thought, which feels like a dragon lurking inside you, begins to make noise. How many times have you felt it? That voice that silently screams, filled with doubts and fears. The dragon inside you seems huge and terrifying, and you can't help but wonder what would happen if you managed to silence it.
In a conversation at that coffee shop, a friend tells you that she has been working on her inner voice and how she has begun to transform it into an ally instead of an enemy. You realize she is right; you are not the only one dealing with that internal dragon.
The Dragon We All Know
The feelings you experience are completely normal. Sometimes, we feel overwhelmed by fear, anxiety, or even guilt. But pay attention! That dragon is not your enemy. It is a part of you that wants to protect you, that activates when it perceives danger. Imagine that your dragon is like an alarm system that goes off whenever there is a threat. If we do not control that dragon, it can become something paralyzing.
What's Going On Inside?
This is where the concept of the Dragon and the Rider comes into play. Your reptilian brain, represented by the dragon, is responsible for your most primitive instincts. When you feel fear or anxiety, your dragon activates automatically. This process is part of a system designed to keep you safe. Essentially, your dragon takes control and, instead of helping you, starts sabotaging you.
We can compare this to the monkey mind, which tends to jump from one thought to another, creating noise and distraction. The goal is to turn that noise into a harmonious melody where the dragon and the rider can work together towards a common goal.
The Reins of Your Dragon
Now, let's address how we can start working on this relationship. An effective tool within the Dragon methodology is the Verbal Rein. Have you ever stopped to think about the words you use with yourself? Changing "I have to" to "I choose" can be a first step. That transforms obligation into intention and empowerment.
Another tool is the Visual Rein. Ask yourself: what is the image I choose to focus on every morning upon waking? Starting the day with positive visualization can change your entire perspective. These types of reins not only guide the dragon's attention, but they also set the direction.
Deep Exercise: Listen to Your Dragon
I propose an introspective exercise: make a list of phrases that your dragon repeats when you fail. Recognize those voices as visitors rather than definitions. Then, replace them with phrases you would use with someone you love; a kind word for yourself can be transformative.
Transforming the Relationship
At the end of this process, by applying the tools and contracts we have discussed, you will see how your relationship with your dragon changes. When you decide to listen to it and guide it, you not only calm it, but you also give it a purpose.
"It is not your shadow nor your burden. It is your flying companion." That is the key. Recognizing that your dragon is not restrained but has potential waiting to be guided towards constructive goals.
Let’s Spread Wings
Imagine a day when you can sit back and enjoy your achievements, feeling that the dragon and the rider are in perfect sync. This is possible. There is no need to be afraid, because in the end, the power is within you.
