Taming Your Dragon: The Transformation of Fear into Inner Power

Today you will understand how to turn your fear into a source of power and growth in your daily life.

“It is not your shadow nor your burden. It is your flying companion.”

A morning like any other

Imagine this: it is a quiet morning, the sun is just beginning to peek over the horizon and the gentle sound of the leaves swaying caresses me. But deep down, I feel a knot in my stomach, as if a waking dragon is lurking inside me. The internal chaos begins to take shape.

Like many other days, I find myself trapped in my thoughts. “Will I be able to face my responsibilities?”, “What will happen if I don’t succeed?”. My doubts are like shadows, and it’s in moments like this that my inner dragon manifests, filling me with anxiety and fear. I have been there, in that dark place, where self-demand becomes my worst enemy.

Listening to the dragon

What I didn’t know was that my dragon was not my enemy. It had a purpose: to protect me, to ensure my survival. This dragon, which represents my reptilian brain, reacts from fear and criticism: a part of me that needs calmness and direction. Instead of trying to subdue it, I learned to listen to its voice. It was a necessary dialogue for both of us, the dragon and me, to find a path to peace.

Transformation and understanding: what is happening

Inside me, the dragon represents my instinct and the automatic reactions I have learned to face. Every time I feel overwhelmed, he reminds me of my deepest fears: criticism, judgment, and the cruel need for control. I realized that I was not broken; I had simply stopped training my dragon to work together.

My monkey mind, the one that jumps from thought to thought, creates ANTs (automatic negative thoughts) and feeds my anxiety. The key lies in understanding that these emotions are an essential part of me, not a defect. Don't fight your dragon; learn to guide it.

Practical tool: the reins that guide

One of the most powerful tools I found on this journey was the implementation of reins. What are they? They are the bridges between intention and action. Here are a couple of examples:

  • Verbal Reins: Change “I have to” to “I choose”. This transforms the perception of your day, giving you control.
  • Emotional Reins: When a negative emotion appears, name it as a visitor. “Hello, anxiety. What do you bring today?” This allows you to observe yourself from a safe distance.

Deep exercise: a journey inward

To integrate what you've learned, I propose an introspective exercise. Make a list of the phrases that your dragon repeats every time you fail. Some could be: “you are not enough” or “if you fail, you will lose everything”. Then, transform those affirmations into something positive. For example, “every mistake is an opportunity to learn.” This simple shift in perspective is an important step towards self-compassion and understanding.

Reflective closure: a new possibility

Imagine that after applying these teachings, that same chaotic morning transforms. You wake up with confidence, knowing that you can dialogue with your dragon. You hear its voice, but it is no longer a terrifying scream. Now it is a gentle whisper inviting you to fly. Your dragon becomes an ally.
