Tame Your Dragon: Guiding Your Mind Towards Flight

How to Coordinate Flight with Your Dragon?

In everyday life, we all face moments of internal tension, where the voice of our fear resonates loudly, like an angry dragon roaring within us. Have you ever felt this way? That internal struggle is a transition for many, and it is present in more than one of us. Today, I invite you to bravely present your own dragons and become the rider of your own story; fall in love with your personal process and learn to guide that formidable energy towards a harmonious flight.

Facing an Invisible Dragon

I remember a particular episode in my life, one Monday morning, when pessimism overwhelmed me as I faced another seemingly endless work week. While I tried to prepare myself, the self-criticisms in my mind began to assail me: "I’m not good enough," "this will be a disaster," "you’ll regret doing this." From the outside, the day seemed normal, but inside, the dragon roared. This day was a metaphor for how often we deal with our own internal battles. But then I thought: what if instead of fighting with my dragon, I could find a different approach? What if we could transform our internal chaos into control?

Decoding the Dragon Within You

All this noise is the result of our reptilian brain, that dragon that reacts automatically to fear and criticism, trying to protect us at all costs. But here’s something important to understand! Your dragon is not an enemy; rather, it is an essential part of you. By ignoring its call for attention, we lose our way, our purpose, and fall into destructive behaviors. This dragon represents your instinct, your emotional history, and what you have had to face throughout your life. Think of it as a compass that, although it doesn’t always point in the “right” direction, always intends to protect and guide you.

The Reins: A Path to Understanding

So, how do we begin to establish a productive relationship with this dragon? This is where our reins come in. By naming the voice that holds you back and identifying how you speak to yourself, you can begin to redefine your internal narrative. For example, instead of saying "I have to do it" - which implies an obligation - how about saying "I choose to do it"? This simple change in perspective allows you to take firm steps toward self-awareness.

A Daily Practice for Your Dragon

I propose a practical exercise that you can implement immediately. Every morning, set aside a small moment to reflect. Ask yourself: "What is the image that forms in my mind for the day ahead?" This is your visual reins. And what you do with this will define how you will face challenges. View the day through a positive lens and clearly define your intentions.

Writing to Your Dragon

To deepen this relationship even further, here is an introspective exercise: make a list of the phrases that your dragon always repeats when you fear failure. Then, in the form of dialogue as if you were talking to a friend, change them for new affirmations filled with love and compassion. This can be like building a love letter to your own self, where you say goodbye to old patterns and embrace new possibilities.

Reflecting on Our Story

When we look back at that fateful Monday morning, imagine how everything would have changed if, instead of listening to that negative dragon, I had addressed myself with compassion. Perhaps the anxiety would still remain, but now I could direct my attention and emotions. The idea is not only to understand but to practice, to make this exercise a routine of life. Your dragon will definitely take a turn towards the light when you give it the structure it needs.

Building a Space for Practice

Remember that to be a good rider, you need your own weyr. This practice space doesn’t have to be the most elegant; it could be as simple as a piece of paper where you note your intentions each morning or a ritual you perform upon waking. What’s crucial is that it helps you reconnect with yourself and your dragons.

A Flight Towards New Possibilities

The dragon should not be a burden, but a flying companion. Whenever you face a difficulty, take a moment to breathe, listen to the echo of your thoughts, and redefine the internal conversation. Remember that this is a process; it’s not a one-time event but an amazing journey towards understanding and, most importantly, a more magical flight.
