Taming Your Inner Dragon: Transforming Fear into Power
Taming Your Inner Dragon: Transforming Fear into Power
A Journey Towards Inner Collaboration
Imagine an ordinary day, where the noise of the outside world mixes with the internal storm that often consumes us. You wake up, feeling that the weight of the day is already crushing you before it even starts. That voice (or rather, those voices) in your head telling you that you’re not enough, that you can’t, that it's better not to try. How many times have you found yourself in this silent battle?
Today, I want to talk to you about a companion we all carry within: your dragon. No, it’s not a fierce beast ready to devour you, even though it may seem that way sometimes. It is your reptilian mind, that part of you that is afraid, that fears failure, and that criticizes even the smallest merits. But it can also be a powerful ally if you learn to communicate with it, to guide it instead of trying to dominate it. Are you ready to battle against your inner dragon and turn it into your best ally?
The Wisdom of a Dragon
Before diving into the practical tools we can use to tame and direct our dragon, it is essential to understand what this dragon is and why it often feels like a threat. Like in an old story, the dragon represents our primal brain, the part of us that reacts instinctively, seeking to survive in a world that often feels overwhelming.
This dragon is not the enemy. It is a misunderstood ally. It reacts out of fear, wrapped in the need for control and judgment. Instead of being an evil being, if listened to and given a mission, it can become a drive that pushes you forward. The key is learning how to have a dialogue with it.
Let’s think about how we feel when facing our fears. Anxiety turns to frustration, internal brakes stop us, and instead of flying, we remain trapped on the ground. All of this is part of our human nature; however, this doesn’t mean we should stay stuck. When we learn to listen to our dragon, we start to give it purpose. We don’t need to subdue it but to offer it direction. This is where the rider, our consciousness, comes into play.
Getting to Know Your Rider
The rider is the one who observes, decides, and directs. It is not an authoritarian boss; rather, it is a patient guide. This is the moment to remember that, although the dragon may seem scary, your rider is there to hold the reins and direct the flight. The challenge is that the rider’s voice often gets drowned out by the dragon’s noise. But, what if you started to practice the art of listening and directing?
One of the most powerful tools you can adopt is the reins that will guide your attention and energy. Are you taking verbal control of your thoughts? If you tell yourself “I have to,” change it to “I choose.” This simple modification not only redefines your relationship with the task but also starts to train your dragon to follow the rider who knows where they are going.
The Verbal Reins
The verbal reins are crucial. Do not underestimate the power of your words. The way you speak to yourself can radically change your thoughts and emotions. Start each day by asking yourself: what choice am I going to make today? Choose words that define your actions and begin to notice how your dragon responds. When you speak to yourself from love and clarity, your dragon will start to feel confident, which in turn will reflect how you face daily challenges.
Empowerment Exercise
Now, I want to invite you to a deep exercise you can do today. Take a moment to write on a piece of paper. Make a list of all the phrases your dragon repeats every time you feel like you fail: “I’m not good enough,” “I’ll never be able to,” “I don’t deserve to be happy.” These phrases are your dragons. Now, next to each one, write a response you would use with someone you love and respect. Change “I’m not good enough” to “I’m learning and that is enough.” This practice will allow you to blur the line between fear and confidence.
Closing the Circle
Remember, the journey towards collaboration between your dragon and your rider is a process. It’s not about eradicating the dragon but tuning in to its voice and making it part of your journey. By learning to listen, guide, and offer purpose, you not only provide direction to your dragon but also discover a new relationship with yourself, where self-criticism dissolves and gives way to self-compassion.
A New Opportunity to Fly
Imagine, for a moment, what your life would be like if you could live it from a place of understanding and direction with your inner dragon. Anxiety diminishes, clarity expands, and the wisdom of your dragon becomes your strongest ally in facing challenges. If today you decide to take that first step, change is inevitable. In the end, the choice is yours: remain a prisoner of your dragon or soar high with your rider. What do you choose?
