A Common Morning
Imagine it is an ordinary morning and you wake up feeling that familiar pressure in your chest. You are in bed looking at the ceiling, your mind filled with worries: work, your loved ones, the future. It feels as if a huge dragon is sitting on top of you, unable to move. You have tried to ignore it, but in the end, that dragon becomes a constant noise in your mind, screaming at you from everywhere. “You are not enough. What are you doing with your life?” That voice resonates, heavy and tyrannical.
You get up, but the dragon remains present. You look at yourself in the mirror and feel a wave of frustration wash over you. You see yourself and ask: “Why can’t I be stronger in the face of this feeling?” Suddenly, you lament about missed opportunities, and fear becomes a companion rather than an adversary. You feel like every day is a battle, and thus, the cycle seems endless. But what if I told you that everything could change?
What is Happening Inside You?
This is where the Dragon framework comes in, helping us to understand what is happening in our minds. Your dragon, representing your reptilian brain, reacts from fear and criticism. It is that protective instinct that seeks to save you, but often, it transforms into the silent sabotage of your dreams. You know you are not broken; you are just poorly trained. Your internal voice, the dragon, needs a mission, a clear purpose, a direction in which to fly.
Under stress, fear takes control, and your mind enters survival mode. The inner voice that guides you often becomes a monkey mind, creating ANTs (automatically negative thoughts) that constantly criticize you. “I am not worth it. I can’t handle this.” And so, the loop of thoughts overwhelms your day-to-day. But there is a way to work with this dragon, not against it. The fundamental concept: learning to dialogue, to fine-tune, to here you can insert the missing text with your mind.
The Path to Connection
A key tool to transform this relationship is the Verbal Reins. This is a powerful language shift you can implement today. Instead of saying “I have to”, change it to “I choose”. This small adjustment not only alters how you perceive tasks but also adjusts how your dragon responds to them.
Imagine starting your day by saying: “I choose to have a difficult conversation.” Immediately, instead of feeling trapped, you feel control and intention. The Verbal Reins, if applied consistently, can bring a new kind of connection with your goals. When you feel obligation again, it is time to reinforce the commitment to yourself.
A Deep Exercise
Let’s take this opportunity to do an introspective exercise. Take a sheet of paper and write down all the phrases your dragon repeats when you face a challenge. Then, turn them into positive affirmations. For example, if one phrase says: “I can’t handle this”, turn it into: “I am capable of facing this.” This not only changes the narrative but gives your dragon a new purpose. Do this as a ritual, not just as an exercise. Practicing this regularly can change your relationship not only with yourself but with the world around you.
