The Rider's Flight: Learning to Let Go with Confidence
The Rider's Flight: Learning to Let Go with Confidence
The Journey of a Rider and Their Dragon
Imagine a moment when you are about to take an important step in your life. You feel a whirlwind of emotions; anxiety stretches in your stomach, and you feel the weight of expectations on your shoulders. This is the perfect moment to talk about a concept that can change everything: learning to let go.
Like most, I have struggled with this feeling. I remember the day I decided to embark on a new project, full of energy but also doubts. Every time I prepared to take that leap, the voice of my dragon, my reptilian mind, grew louder: "What if you fail?" or "You’re not ready!" However, it was in that moment of internal agony that I realized that learning to let go does not mean giving up control; rather, it means accepting that not everything can be controlled.
Recognizing the Inner Dragon
The dragon in our story symbolizes that part of us that struggles to maintain control, to protect us from pain, failure, or any fall. This instinct, although powerful, often limits us. Driven by its strength and instinct, the dragon wants to take the reins, to fly high and fast, but sometimes, speed is not the right path.
It is essential to understand that the dragon is not the enemy. It is a part of us that, in its quest for safety, often exaggerates danger and prevents us from seeing the bigger picture. Instead of seeing the dragon as a companion, many see it as a beast to be tamed. But I tell you: the dragon is your flying companion.
Let Go of Expectations, Not the Flight
Learning to let go is an art. It is not about abandoning the flight, but rather about releasing expectations, the fears of falling. True freedom comes when you, as the rider, and your dragon decide to trust one another. When the dragon feels it does not need to act out of fear, it can fly higher, and so can you. The key is to be present, in every moment, guiding from a place of confidence.
The Relationship Between Rider and Dragon
When the rider and the dragon allow themselves to rest in mutual trust, the flight transforms into a symbol of pure freedom. This is where we introduce the concept of reins. The reins are tools that can help you focus your dragon’s attention.
Reins to Guide Your Dragon
Verbal Rein: The way you talk to yourself affects how you act. Instead of saying "I have to," opt for "I choose." This simple shift can change your perspective and give new meaning to every action.
Visual Rein: What you look at creates your reality. What do you choose to look at as you start your day? What image inspires confidence?
Emotional Rein: Your emotions are visitors, not permanent. Name them as such. This will allow them to flow without clinging to them.
Behavioral Rein: Create intentional habits. A small daily action can be more effective than a thousand plans. Remember, repetition breathes life into your path.
Transformation Through Contracts
One of the most effective ways to build a healthy relationship between the rider and the dragon is through internal contracts. These contracts help define how to work with yourself. For example:
- Recognize: "What I am, have, and do is already enough." This curbs self-demand.
- Thrive: "I can seek more without fear of losing myself." It accelerates progress with direction.
- Enjoy: "The value is also in what already exists." It changes the lens of what you see.
- Forgive: "I do not carry more than what I have already learned." It frees mental and emotional space.
A Practice Space: Your Weyr
Define a "weyr" where you can return to yourself. This is the place where you will practice your relationship with yourself. It doesn’t have to be sacred, just functional. It could be a notebook, a conversation, or even a walk. The important thing is to return to yourself, your contracts, and reins.
A Reflection Exercise
Now, I invite you to engage in a deep exercise. Take a sheet of paper and write a letter to your dragon. Ask it how it feels and express your desire to learn to let go. At the end, include an affirmation: "Our flights together will soar higher as we learn to trust one another." This will facilitate internal dialogue and strengthen the relationship.
Reflections for a Conscious Flight
As we close this reflection, think about the story we began. Imagine how the situation would change if you could apply what you've learned and let trust guide your flight. You, as the rider, have the power to change the internal dialogue and direct the flight to new heights.
Your Next Step
If this vision resonated with you, I invite you to take the next step. Don’t stay in the air. Schedule a session with me, download the book Dragons, or explore the tools available in the course. The path is already mapped out. All that’s left is for you to decide to fly.
