The Rider's Flight: The Contract of Forgiveness

Today you will understand why forgiveness is a liberating tool in your life, and how it can transform your way of flying with your dragon.

“Forgiveness is not an act of forgetting, but of liberation.”

The Burden We Carry

Let’s think about this for a moment. Imagine a rider, perched atop their dragon, ready to soar through the skies. But something weighs on their heart. It could be painful memories of betrayals, mistakes from the past, or self-expectations that seem to scream from within. One feels like a prisoner in their own story, as if the wounds of the past were unbreakable chains.

I remember when I found myself in that same situation. I had made decisions I believed were wrong, wounds that still hurt. I didn't know how to break free from that cycle. Until one morning, while walking through the fields, I saw a dragon flying high, unburdened, and I knew I needed to liberate myself too. Thus began my journey towards the contract of forgiveness.

Understanding Pain

What happens inside us when we don’t forgive is complex. The dragon, our reptilian brain, reacts with fear and rejection. This is a survival mechanism: it protects us by reminding us of the pain, repeating it over and over again. But here’s the trick: we don’t need to allow those memories to guide our actions. We are not our wounds.

When the rider and the dragon are trapped in a cycle of pain, decision-making becomes distorted. The internal voices - what specialists call ANTs (Automatic Negative Thoughts) - constantly sabotage us. The dragon needs to find a purpose and a clear direction. This is not achieved by fighting against it, but by listening to it and guiding it.

The Liberation of Forgiveness

One of the most powerful contracts you can establish is the contract of forgiveness. This contract is an agreement between you and your dragon: to agree to release those burdens that no longer serve you. Forgiveness does not mean forgetting, but ceasing to anchor ourselves to pain as if it were part of our identity.

To start, I invite you to write a letter. It can be addressed to someone who has hurt you or even to yourself. Express your feelings, whisper your freedoms and permissions. Then, visualize how those heavy emotions begin to dissolve, like clouds fading into the sky.

Exercise of Release

Now, let’s do an exercise together. Write a list of the phrases that your dragon repeats when you feel inadequate or a failure. Then, transform each of those phrases into something comforting that you would say to someone you love. This way, these words become reins that guide you towards forgiveness and healing.

The Path to a Free Future

When you commit to forgive, you not only release the weight of the past, but you also strengthen your relationship with your dragon. The flight becomes lighter, the connection deepens, and you can move towards a future full of peace and freedom. Forgiveness is an essential tool for all riders, because only by letting go of the burdens of the past can we truly enjoy the flight.
