It’s better to stay here.” In that internal struggle, there’s a part of you that longs to move forward, that dreams of flying, but the dragon has taken control.

As you go through your day, that voice becomes a constant: “You aren’t enough,” “You always end up failing,” “People judge you.” But what if I told you that this dragon, this voice, is not your enemy? Anxiety, fear, and insecurity are its favorite weapons. What you need to understand is that it is not broken — it is just poorly trained — and you can learn to converse with it.

Practical Tool: Master Your Reins

To begin transforming your relationship with the dragon, you first need to learn how to use the reins of your mind. These reins are tools that allow you to guide your dragon toward the path you desire.

  • Verbal Rein: Change your words and you will change your actions. Replace “I have to” with “I choose” and start taking control of your decisions.
  • Visual Rein: What you look at defines what you see. As you start your day, ask yourself: “What image do I want to focus on?” This sets a clear purpose for your actions.
  • Emotional Rein: Name your emotions as if they were visitors. Remember that what you feel is not who you are. This simple change can liberate you from the emotional weight that paralyzes you.
  • Behavioral Rein: Daily action, even if simple, leads you toward your goals. Create a habit that defines your day and brings you closer to your objective.

An Exercise to Dive Deeper

Now I invite you to an introspective exercise. Take a moment to reflect on the phrases your dragon repeats when you feel like you’re failing. Write them down on a piece of paper. When you finish, change each of those phrases into affirmations you would tell a person you love. For example, if your dragon says “I am not enough,” transform that idea to “I am valuable and I am constantly growing.” This exercise will not only connect you with your emotions but will also allow you to rewrite the narratives that have been dictating your life.
