Master Your Dragon: A Journey Towards Inner Collaboration
Today you will understand why your mind sometimes sabotages you and how to start turning it into your ally.
“It is not your shadow or your burden. It is your flying companion.”
The Fear Trap
Imagine that one day, after a long period of inner struggles, you decide to take a big step in your life, perhaps changing careers, starting a new project, or even ending a toxic relationship. You feel motivated, ready to take off, until suddenly, that familiar voice inside you starts to speak: “What if you fail? What will others think?” In that moment, enthusiasm turns into anxiety, and before you know it, you find yourself paralyzed by fear.
This is something many of us have experienced: that dragon inside us that activates at any change threatening our comfort zone. Its presence can be overwhelming, but the important thing is that it is not here to hold you back; its intention is to protect you. But how can we transform it into an ally instead of an enemy?
Understanding Our Inner Dragon
To understand this internal struggle, it is helpful to explore the neuropsychology behind our fear. Our reptilian brain, often symbolized as a dragon, is responsible for our instinctive reactions, those that originate from a place of survival. This reactive dragon is designed to keep us safe, but it often does so at the expense of our happiness and progress.
Your dragon is not broken; it just needs a rider who knows where it wants to go. The problem does not lie within the dragon but in not listening to its voice, in ignoring the voice that wants to help us survive in this changing world. So how do we establish this conversation?
A New Agreement with Your Dragon
This is where the Dragons methodology comes into play. A vital tool that can change your relationship with your dragon is using the **reins**. These reins are the pathways that allow your intention and action to align, helping to guide your dragon instead of dominating it. One of the most powerful reins is the Verbal Rein.
By changing the language you use with yourself, you transform not just your internal dialogue but your behavior as well. For example, instead of saying “I have to,” change that to “I choose to.” When you acknowledge your choice, you feel control instead of obligation, and your dragon will start to trust you.
Your Practice Space: The Weyr
But change doesn’t happen overnight. Your dragon needs a space to practice this new relationship – a space we call **weyr**. It doesn't have to be a sacred physical place; it can be any space where you feel connected to yourself. A simple notebook or a walk in the sun can be enough to bring you back to yourself, to remember your contracts and reins.
Self-Awareness Exercise
Now, I want you to take a moment to reflect. Make a list of the phrases your dragon repeats when you feel like you're failing. Phrases like “I’m not good enough” or “I won’t make it” are common. Then, rewrite each of these phrases in a way you would use with someone you love, for example, “You are learning, and that is enough.” This exercise will not only foster self-compassion but also start reprogramming your dragon’s voice.
The Possibility of a Safe Flight
Transformation is not just about eliminating fear. It's about learning to fly together, guiding the dragon with love and understanding instead of resentment. Imagine how your story would change if you guided your dragon towards the light instead of letting it drag you into darkness. It’s time to turn that anxiety into creative energy, and with each small step, get closer to your dreams.
