Entering Weyr: A Safe Space for You and Your Dragon
Today you are going to understand why your mind sometimes sabotages you, and how to begin turning it into your ally.
“Your dragon is not broken. It just needs a rider who knows where it wants to go.”
The Search for an Internal Refuge
Imagine the scene: you are deep in a forest, the trees rising around you, and the restless murmur of your thoughts competes with the song of the birds. You feel the pressure of day-to-day life, the expectations around you, and the internal noise that won't let you in peace. You stop and breathe, just for a moment, as you look up at the sky; there it is, your dragon. A majestic being, but sometimes it seems more like a challenge than an ally. How can you create a safe space, a Weyr, where both you and your dragon can thrive?
The Voice that Sometimes Sabotages You
Let’s think about that: you have been struggling with self-sabotage for days. You feel that your dragon, a symbol of your most basic instincts, turns into an unrelenting critic. “You are not enough,” “you won’t be able to do it,” “you should have done better.” Those voices echoing in your mind prevent you from moving forward. You wonder: why do I feel this way? Why do I struggle to be my own ally?
This is the moment when you need to recognize that your dragon is not attacking you; rather, it is expressing its fear. Like a caretaker who cares for you, it tries to protect you from some painful experience, reminding you of past failures. But there is also a way to work together that can transform that relationship.
The Duality of the Dragon and the Rider
The dragon is a part of you: your instinct, your emotional history, your raw energy. Meanwhile, the rider, that voice within you that should observe and guide, often finds itself trapped by noise and fear. Remember that it’s not about dominating your dragon but establishing a dialogue. Creating a Weyr is giving home to this relationship.
Tools for Connection
To build this safe space, it is essential to establish reins, tools that help you focus your dragon's attention. Each rein is a bridge between your intention and your action:
- Verbal Rein: Change “I have to” to “I choose.” This simple shift can transform your mindset and help you make decisions more aligned with your desires.
- Visual Rein: Ask yourself what image you want to have in mind when starting the day. That visualization can guide your attitude and focus.
- Emotional Rein: Learn to observe your emotions as temporary visitors and not as permanent identities. This allows you space to manage what you feel without being defined by it.
- Behavioral Rein: Establish a daily habit that is small but meaningful. Every action counts and creates the path to your well-being.
Creating Your Weyr Space
Visualize your Weyr as a refuge, a space where you reconnect with yourself and your inner dragons. It can be a specific physical place, a routine in your daily life, a notebook where you write your reflections, or even an honest conversation with yourself.
The key is in the practice: it is in this space where you can reflect on your internal contracts and your reins. Remember: “a rider who does not practice… forgets how to guide.”
Exercise for Deepening
Now, I invite you to an introspection exercise. Make a list of the phrases your dragon repeats when you feel insecure. It could be: “I’m not going to make it,” “I’m a failure,” or any other negative thought. Then, for each phrase, write a positive affirmation that you would offer to someone you love. This practice helps reset the relationship between you and your dragon, creating a space of understanding and mutual support.
A New Beginning
It may not be easy at first, but every small step you take towards creating and maintaining your Weyr is a step towards a more harmonious relationship with yourself. Your dragon can be your companion on this journey, and building a safe space is the key to maintaining that connection.
Invitation to Fly
Don’t forget that creating this space is an ongoing practice. Be kind to yourself. Just as a rider understands that there are flying days and resting days, allow yourself to be flexible and adaptable. Today, take the first step towards that Weyr where both you and your dragon can find peace and clarity.
